Hasbro
Moves Play-Doh Line to Massachusetts

50' x 100' mezzanine from Maybury helped Play-Doh
increase productivity at their new facility. |
When
Hasbro decided to relocate their Play-Doh manufacturing
facility from Rhode Island to Massachusetts, they
chose Maybury to assist them with the restructuring
of their Production Department. Because Maybury promised
delivery and set-up of the product in a timely, price-competitive
manner, Hasbro knew that we were the right material
handling distributor for the job. The relocation entailed
moving all of the hardware for Play-Doh processing
into a smaller area, so design efficiency was key.
Our material handling specialists helped Hasbro to
select the proper equipment to set up their new facility.
Maybury
installed a 50' x 100' mezzanine with a 25' clear
span between the columns. We provided the design and
specifications for the footings and designed the mezzanine
with catwalks above. The catwalks and safety gates
were, in fact, a special request from Hasbro and were
installed at the same time as the main mezzanine.
This 5100 sq. ft. mezzanine holds 36 bins of empty
containers which are pulled on demand for filling.
An auxiliary mezzanine measuring 2100 sq. ft. was
installed for storage of mixing equipment. Maybury
also installed the conveyors, which are used to feed
the Play-Doh cans from the main mezzanine to the filling
machines below. With this setup, Hasbro is able to
fill 12,500 6 oz. cans per hour. Working two 12 hour
shifts, they produce 300,000 6 oz. cans per day!

Hasbro
was extremely pleased by the ease with which we were
able to complete the restructuring of their Play-Doh
production department. Bob Peacock, Purchasing Agent
for Hasbro said, "Maybury's professionalism throughout
this operation, along with the quality of their products
and installation, assured us that we had made the
right choice of material handling suppliers."
