Raphael
Ramos maneuvers through the obstacle course with a pallet of
stacked milk crates. |
The second annual
Operations Rodeo was held at Springfield Foodservice Corporation (SFC)
in Springfield,
MA.
The Operations Rodeo gave SFC
forklift operators a chance to highlight the maneuvering and safety
skills they display in their daily operations. Forty-three SFC
reach truck and pallet jack operators participated as Rodeo contestants
in the event. For some, this was their first time partaking in the
Operations Rodeo contest. For others, who had participated in the
event last year, this was a chance to either preserve another win
or amend a lost victory the second time around.
The competition began with a written exam on forklift safety. Next
came the preshift inspection, which was followed by the final portion
of the contestthe obstacle course. Jay Mercadante, Maybury's
Fabrication/Engineering Manager, developed a Rodeo course layout
that challenged the operators' driving skills. Shane Gebo, SFC's
Facility and Safety Manager, further tailored the layout to fit
SFC's
physical plant. Each contestant completed a timed run through the

with a Crown RR5020-35 Reach Truck or a PE3540-60 Walk/Ride Pallet
Truck. Maybury associates, John Maybury, Mark McCormick, Mike Flaherty,
Bob Mazzariello, Brad Albert, Sandi Gagner, Charlotte Morrissette,
and Grace Eggleston, helped out with judging the obstacle course
stations and tallying contestants' scores.
Families,
friends and co-workers cheered on contestants and also enjoyed
the cookout and children's activities that went on throughout
the day.
Congratulations to all of the SFC
operators for putting such a great effort into making the event
a success. (We hope to see you at the next rodeo in June.)

Southern
Air, Inc., a new customer of Maybury Material Handling,
is an international cargo airline company located in Norwalk,
Connecticut. Southern Air owns several Boeing 747 aircrafts
and recently purchased a Kalmar AC P330, a 33,000-pound
capacity, turbo-charged diesel powered lift truck, to manage
its aircraft engine shop. The truck is used to move 18,000-pound
747 aircraft engines in, out, and around their warehouse.
Michael Gintoli, Manager of Materials for Southern Air,
says, "We are enjoying the benefits of Kalmar AC's UltraVizion

of 48% over Kalmar's previous design. The UltraVizion mast
is an industry leader in visibility. Mr. Gintoli commented
that the compactness of the Kalmar AC P330 made it easier
to maneuver in his facility than his previous competitive
model.
